At the end of the story George ends up shooting Lennie. One way I can justify his actions is because in the story it was clear that Lennie was going to die and if anyone but George had found Lennie then they would have showed no mercy and it would have been terrifying for Lennie but George showed mercy and made it less scary for Lennie. George was telling him that he wasn't mad and telling him to picture the farm, the thing that made Lennie happiest. He made it painless for him. In my opinion I don't see how we could condemn it because I think that George did the right thing.
